6 Fall Activities for Seniors

Posted On Nov 16, 2021

The leaves are changing color, and depending on where you live, the temperatures may be cooling down a little.

While the days may be getting shorter, there’s still plenty of daylight to enjoy some fun fall activities if you’re an independent senior.

  1. Look for fall festivals in your area – from fall celebrations to leaf festivals, fall is a great time to get out and enjoy the refreshing change in the weather. Check Facebook events to see what’s going on near you or download an app like Eventbrite to discover a variety of concerts, festivals, and harvest events in your area.
  2. Create your own excursion – autumn is a perfect time for a picnic or wine-tasting trip. Pack a basket, grab a thermos of hot chocolate or apple cider, and enjoy the fall colors and sunshine in a nearby park.
  3. Bake up some fun – what’s fall without pumpkin pie or caramel apples? Prepare some treats for yourself or for the upcoming holiday gatherings you may plan to attend. For something a little different, try food blogger Sue Lau’s Coconut Pumpkin Pie recipe this fall.
  4. Enjoy some fall sports – whether it’s the big homecoming game or your favorite professional team, fall is a great time to enjoy watching your favorite sport. And if you can’t get to the stadium, having a festive fall watch party is the second-best thing to tailgating in the stadium parking lot.
  5. Create an indoor garden – if you have a green thumb or have always wanted one, fall is a great time to create a succulent garden. Easy to care for and a great way to enjoy some greenery throughout winter, starting a succulent garden is a fun fall activity you can do on your own or as a group activity. Walnut Ridge has a great article on eight simple steps to creating your own indoor succulent garden.
  6. Practice some hygge – fall is the perfect time to put a little more “cozy” into your lifestyle, and that’s what hygge is all about. A Danish word, hygge is defined by the Oxford Learner’s Dictionary as “the quality of being warm and comfortable that gives a feeling of happiness.” Some easy ways to put more hygge into your fall include:
    1. Enjoying a roaring fire with friends, either outside around an outdoor pit or inside, curled up next to the fireplace.
    2. Autumn is coffee and cocoa weather – get a steaming cup of your favorite warm beverage as an excellent companion to a fire.
    3. Sharing the comfort of hygge with friends by having a game night, a soup party, or just sitting around getting cozy and enjoying good company.

So, enjoy the change of season with friends and family. Put some fun fall outdoor and indoor activities on the calendar to enjoy your autumn to the maximum. And, when you’re done, we’re here to make getting life insurance quotes online easier.
